iPhone and iPod touch users will soon have access to non-stop solar-powered charging with the planned Australian availability of the new Solar Surge from Novothink.

Designed as a wraparound case with solar panel on the back, Solar Surge generates enough power to charge iPod touch units solely using the power of the sun. This ensures continuous music in the car, at the beach, or anywhere else out of reach of a power point.

A second version of Solar Surge, due in the fourth quarter, will power the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

The company expects to be ready to ship product to Australia from next month, and is finalising Australian distribution agreements to ensure a steady supply of product onto our shores.

The Solar Surge costs $US69.95 ($A88) but local pricing is yet to be determined. See for more information.
