Reviews

These over-the-ear headphones from Klipsch, maker of some of the world’s best-loved audio gear, follow the new trend of incorporating an iOS-compatible remote with mic on the cable.

Featuring a black design with silver highlights, they’re light and well-made, though the earpieces are not large and the initial comfort wears off after a while.

The first thing you notice with the Image Ones is that they deliver a LOT of bass – much more than usual – but this might be because the audio signature is aimed at users of iOS devices.

Even if you like a bit of bass you might be turned off here, because the bass on some tracks, such as rock or dance, starts to dominate the lower mid-range and affects clarity.

On classical, jazz or other mellow tracks the bass settles down, however. When combined with a sweet upper mid-range and high-range, what you get is a clean and pleasing sound.

The Image Ones have an amazing amount of detail and a wide audio space. Soundstaging is only so-so, however. In-call audio quality using an iPhone was very good.

Macworld Australia’s buying advice

The Klipsch Image Ones are a nice set of headphones with the added bonus of an in-line remote control and mic. However, they’re let down by an overwhelming amount of bass which might even be too much for those who like their audio on the doof-doof side.
