The ideal iPad case would offer protection for your iPad, make it look stylish, and offer a variety of standing positions. The latest Tuff-Luv Tri-Axis Statsis Series does just that.
Your iPad slides inside and is held in place by a Velcro fasten. Open the case and you’ll see the screen of the iPad with a leather surround that reveals the camera and the home button. The iPad is nicely protected top and bottom, we were a little concerned that the right side edge was a little exposed however, if you were to drop the iPad on that edge we’d not expect it to come away entirely unscathed. However, compared to the other iPad 2 cases we’ve seen, the protection offered is pretty good, and especially compared to Apple’s Smart Cover’s non existent protection, this Tuff-Luv case stands up to it’s tough credentials.
The Tuff-Luv Tri-Avis stand has a name that suggested that there might be three ways to place your iPad. There are in fact many more. There are five viewing angles for watching the iPad in landscape mode. Amongst those angles is the perfect angle for watching a movie on a plane as well as FaceTiming a friend. But it doesn’t stop there. The case can also support your iPad in portrait mode. The front cover folds in on itself to create a stand like a picture frame. It doesn’t feel as sturdy as the landscape options, but it does work.
We can see ourselves using this positioning for FaceTime or in meetings. The Stasis element of the name indicates that the case takes advantage of the magnetic technology that works with Apple’s Smart Cover and as a result the iPad will turn of and on as you close and open the case.
We are also impressed by the price of this ‘genuine leather’ case. At £39.99 (about $62) it’s definitely one of the less expensive leather options. Our only criticism is that it adds quite a lot of bulk and weight to the iPad, you can get cheaper and lighter cases from Tuff-Luv that duplicate the design however.
Macworld Australia’s Buying Advice
We love being able to stand our iPad 2 up in the various different positions offered by this Tuff-Luv case. The quality is good – especially given the price. Our only concern is that the iPad sticks out a little at the side.
