In the twenty-first century, we carry our lives with us. Phone, keys and wallet form an indispensable personal inventory for getting through the day. When any of these items are lost, life grinds to an abrupt halt. Most of us know the stress of calling locksmiths, mobile phone operators and insurance companies to repair the damage.
Mi-Zone announces the 2012 launch of the Mi-Zone tag, a two-way proximity alarm that works together with smartphones and tablets. Attach the tag to your keys, your bag, your camera or anything else you want to keep safe, and it will track the distance from your phone using a Bluetooth link. As soon as it moves out of range, an alarm activates on both the tag and your phone to let you know something is wrong.
You can set the distance to 3m, 6m or 9m depending on where you are. Whether coming and going on trains and buses, browsing the shops or mixing in bars, Mi- Zone can offer an extra level of protection from loss or theft.
Today, the smartphone is becoming a third arm, connecting us to friends, work, news and even our personal finances and yet each year 6.2 million people lose at least one personal device. These can include mobile phones, MP3 players, sat navs and laptops, with 29% having no idea where the loss occurred.*
As Mi-Zone uses Bluetooth, it does not rely on a mobile signal and can even be used on the London Underground. Handily, you can also search for the tag from your phone app, or press a button on the tag itself to locate your handset – ideal for when your phone is hiding in a big bag or around the house. Depending on your device, you can register up to three Mi-Zone tags on the app, protecting several items at once.
The Mi-Zone tag takes just seconds to set-up; simply download the app to your device and it will detect and link-up automatically. The tag has an impressive 50 hours battery life and will alert your phone or tablet as soon as charge drops below 10%.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, Mi-Zone has been in operation since March 2009, with the technology initially developed in the UK by inventor and founder, Phillip Jarrett. Since its inception, the company has accrued an experienced Board of Directors and invested close to €1m in product development. The Mi-Zone tag is now carried by internationally by distributors including Carphone Warehouse and the Apple Store.
Mi-Zone has been successful in securing R&D Government Grant Funding from several agencies and departments within the UK and the Irish Government – Qualifying for the EU High Growth Potential Funding Scheme.
