Sony Australia announced today that PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) will launch in Australia on February 23, 2012. This follows confirmation from Sony Europe today that PS Vita will launch globally from 22nd February, 2012.

PS Vita will be available in Australia for $349.95 (Wi-Fi model); and $449.95 (3G/Wi-Fi) respectively.

Sony says that PS Vita will afford users the luxury of uncompromised portable gaming anytime, anywhere.

“[PS Vita's] impressive feature set is designed to provide the ultimate gaming experiences on the go. This, combined with social connectivity means there will be not only innovative new ways to play, but also new ways to connect with others,” said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand.

“We are incredibly excited about the upcoming launch of PlayStation Vita,” Ephrain added.

The PS Vita system will bring to consumers new ways to play through a series of gameplay features, including an OLED front touch screen and rear touch pad, dual analogue sticks, motion sensors and dual cameras.

Sony also revealed that there are currently more than 80 games in production from first and third party studios including LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout 2048, Resistance: Burning Skies, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed and EA Sports’ FIFA, to name a few.

In addition, 3G and Wi-Fi support will allow PS Vita users a more interactive experience, with the opportunity to invite their friends and other PS Vita owners in on the action via native PS Vita applications.

A variety of social networking and communications services such as Facebook, foursquare, Skype and Twitter will also be available on PS Vita.
