Game developer Zynga has launched the sequel to its popular Facebook game FarmVille today, with updated features and 3D graphics.

Zynga hopes FarmVille 2 will draw its dwindling users back to the farm, with a three-year refresh and a new farm to reinvigorate the game.

Users are greeted with a story in FarmVille 2 and tasked to restore the family farm to its former glory and this of course requires daily attention to crops, animals and the resulting produce.

The graphics have been updated to offer an improved gaming experience and re-engage lost users of the original FarmVille.

“If we can’t get [the users] engaged in 60 seconds to two minutes,” Zynga’s VP of Games Tim LeTourneau told TechCrunch. “We haven’t done our jobs right.”

The game requires further attention than its predecessor, with the users tasked to feed the farm’s livestock in return for produce users can sell. Which in turn pays for the farm’s running costs.

The social aspect to the game has also been upgraded, with users able to visit their friends’ farms and help out with chores.

FarmVille 2 offers players a new way to farm by delivering an immersive experience, rich characters, and new social features that make game boards come to life with their friends,” LeTourneau told Mashable.
