YouTube turns five

Five years ago this week, YouTube was born as a beta service. The founders realised a huge potential to give anyone and everyone a place to upload video and easily share it with the world.

Who would have guessed that the simple idea would become the behemoth that it is now? In those short five years, YouTube has grown to be the third most visited website in the world, with a staggering 24 hours of video being uploaded every minute. Not only that, the site has just exceeded two billion views per day.

In case you’ve missed out on any of the most watched clips, here they are for both the Australian site and worldwide. It’s good to note the Aussies tend to opt for AC/DC over Miley Cyrus, but I can’t say I endorse many of these clips:
