The Wall Street Journal has all-but confirmed the pending release of the second generation iPad, verifying earlier reports that the new device will be significantly thinner, while including a faster processor, more memory, front and back facing cameras and a more powerful graphics processor.

Unfortunately, there’ll be no increase in resolution, with the iPad 2 using the same 1024 x 768 screen as appeared in the tablet’s first iteration.

The WSJ reports that Apple has already begun manufacturing the product, who’ve quoted a ‘person familiar with the matter.’ The paper has previously been considered Apple’s unofficial channel for official leaks, so it’s certainly a possibility that the tip-off came from Apple itself.

Pictures of the new device, featured above, appeared this afternoon on 9to5Mac.

2 people were compelled to have their say. We encourage you to do the same..

  1. Dan says:

Is it me or dose the picture look like it’s a bit longer? I hope they go full 16:9.

  2. Xenophos says:

They won’t go 16:9, they would have extensively tested that form factor before the release last year, and if they thought it was better, would have gone with that.
