Microsoft has announced Windows 10 will be released on 29 July. Windows 10 is Microsoft’s one OS to run on the broadest selection of devices including Windows PCs, Windows tablets, Windows phones, Windows for the Internet of Things, Microsoft Surface Hub, Xbox One and Microsoft HoloLens.
It will be a free upgrade to all Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 users. It will also be the last version of Windows with new features and updates to be delivered, as they are ready, for free.
Consumers will have one year from 29 July to take advantage of the free upgrade. If you’re running a Windows system, either on its own computer or in a Virtual Machine, an icon will have appeared in the system tray at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the icon, and then complete the reservation process.
Among the new features coming to Windows 10 are:
- Cortana – a personal digital assistant application that is similar, in some resepcts, to Siri.
- Microsoft Edge – the successor to Internet Explorer.
- New Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People, Mail & Calendar apps.
- Windows Continuum – a tool that works like Continuity on your Mac to allow tasks to be started on one device and completed on another.
