Ecamm Network on Friday introduced its BT-1 Bluetooth wireless Web cam, which it calls the world's first such device. Designed for Mac compatibility, the BT-1 will cost $US149.99 ($A210) when it ships in March. Ecamm plans to show the Web cam at Macworld Expo in San Francisco next week.
The BT-1 streams H.264-encoded video at 640-by-480-pixel resolution, and AAC-encoded audio at 48 kHz. It measures 5cm by 6.4cm by 1.6cm, and sports a standard tripod mount. The device works with iChat, Skype, and other applications, according to Ecamm.
The BT-1 includes a flexible mini-tripod, which gives you the ability to adjust camera position, pan, and tilt, along with a USB cable for recharging its battery.
The Web cam requires OS X 10.5 Leopard or later and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR or better.

Great to see such great innovations using the Bluetooth connection platform as some of us were running scared with regard to some of the new machines Apple is releasing with no Bluetooth connections. Seems that, while USB 2 appears on paper,to be faster than Bluetooth for us video folk, as it has to stop to turn the signal around, unlike two way Bluetooth, video is patchy.
For watching movies, Jobs announced that the second iteration of the Apple TV will allow movies to be downloaded (and even rented) directly from the iTunes Store without the need for a computer to get involved. Of course, this feature is only relevant to Americans, but as an increasing number of Australians are figuring out how to access the US iTunes Store it's worth noting. The iTunes rental service includes both new release and "catalogue" films from all the major studios.

As I type these words, I am waiting for Apple's Developer Connection web site to ease up sufficiently for me to download the long-awaited Software Developer Kit for the iPhone (and iPod touch, just by the by). In a way, I hate developer-oriented announcements — "here's a really cool thing we're working on, and it's available now, and hoi polloi can have it in about six months". Actually, it's the six months I hate.
