The publication says that the iPhone 5 is in the top spot because “it’s one of the most artfully polished gadgets anyone’s ever built,” writes the lists author Harry McCracken. Also highlighted is the device’s improved camera and thinner, lighter design.
“There are lots of nifty smartphones out there, including the iPhone’s impressive archrival, Samsung’s Galaxy S III,” McCracken continues. “But when it comes to melding hardware, software and services so tightly that the seams fade away, Apple still has no peer.”
The 15in Retina MacBook Pro was given sixth place in the list, for its high-resolution display that “makes for the most ink-on-paper-like images you’ve ever seen on a computer,” McCracken writes.
Also on the list is the Nest thermostat that was designed by ex Apple employees Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Note II, Microsoft’s Surface RT, the Raspberry PiModel B, and the Nintendo Wii U.
