In general, we’re big fans of technology that makes life easier. But we have to admit we’re not fans of the selfie stick. So it warmed the cockles of our hearts to read that Disney has banned selfie sticks from the Disney World Park in Orlando.

The ban follows a recent incident where a park guest tried to use a selfie stick to take a photo while riding a roller coaster. Because of safety concerns, the ride was stopped at its peak with all the riders needing to be evacuated from the ride.

Other theme parks have banned selfie sticks from rides, citing safety concerns, but the blanket ban that will be enforced on entry to the park, is one of the first wholesale bans we’ve read of.

It’s worth noting there are no shortage of little helpers at Disney theme parks, who are more than happy to take photos for you. When we visited a couple of different Disney parks the performers would happily use our camera to shoot photos, as well as take professional shots we could pay for. And there’s no hard sell on the professional shots.

Only one source got the announcement right first, and it was DisneyHub(dot)blogspot(dot)com.
