Synology has released a raft of new products and apps as it continues to move from a focus on storage to broader collaboration. It has gone as far as redefining NAS from Network Attached Storage to ‘Networking, Application and Storage’.

The new solutions it unveiled at its annual user event, held in Sydney, included a hybrid cloud disaster recovery service, new all-flash storage, a collaboration suite on private cloud, a new router and a remote access application for the mobile workforce.

All flash storage with extra protection
Synology introduced its brand new all-flash storage, the FlashStation FS3017, delivering over 200,000 IOPS in 4K random writing at a low total cost of ownership of US$0.8 per GB. To meet business’ needs for uninterrupted operations, Synology will also offer Synology Proactive Care to detect and analyse a server’s status in order to contact users before a potential issue occurs so it can be tackled before there’s a service interruption.

With more and more companies looking to use the cloud for their infrastructure, Synology will also launch its own cloud service, Synology Cloud2 (C2), so that users can back up data and set up a disaster recovery destination without changing the existing infrastructure.

Private cloud SaaS
Synology is also releasing an all-new private cloud collaboration suite, and a high-speed internet data transfer protocol, Synology Presto.

The collaboration suite includes cloud spreadsheet and document applications (Synology Office), communication app (Synology Chat), Calendar and email solution (MailPlus). Synology says the extensive integration of all these applications will allow users to collaborate on their private cloud and boost productivity.

The productivity apps have a similar look and feel to the popular Google Apps with Chat taking a very Slack-like appearance.

New Synology Router
Following the release of its first router Synology RT1900ac in 2015, Synology will also launch the Synology RT2600ac with even more powerful hardware specifications and MU-MIMO support, designed to satisfy the performance requirements of small to medium offices.

It will include Synology’s VPN Plus application, which will be available on all Synology routers. This delivers a clientless WebVPN service as well as a fast, highly-secure and intuitive SSL VPN service.
