Wireless and mobile market research company iGR conducted the survey during the second week of September.
“Beyond some basic differences, such as service providers and mobile phone brands, other differences became apparent when we analysed these groups’ responses to our survey,” said Iain Gillott, President and Founder of iGR. “These groups not only have distinct demographic profiles, they also display different trends in their recent and planned purchases, the other computing devices that they use, their use of cellular data services, their desired improvements to their cellular data service, and their use of Wi-Fi on their smartphone.”
The results found that iPhone owners are more likely to be female and married than Android users, and they’re also more likely to have a degree or earn more than US$50,000.
Android users seem to be buying more new phones than iOS, likely because Apple only updates its iPhone once a year, whereas new Android phones are more frequently launched.
Apple users did seem to have more brand loyalty, though, says iGR. “They were more likely than Android users to state that they will ‘definitely only consider’ the same phone,” the report reads.
The survey also found that iPhone owners are “significantly more likely” to own a tablet than Android users.
