A Chinese student has built his girlfriend an iPad for 800-yuan about $125.

Wei Xinlong built the homemade ‘iPad’ for his girlfriend Sun Shasha, out of a second-hand laptop, and a touchscreen and battery he bought online.

The device, which took Wei 10 days to construct, is roughly the same weight and thickness as an iPad according to China Daily. Wei explained that Sun can “read, download, watch movies and play games just by touching the screen.”

Wei used videos on the internet to teach him how to built the tablet computer, which has hand-carved and polished ports, and sparkly rhinestones that were added later by Sun. “This is the best gift I’ve ever had” said Sun.

After receiving this unusual gift, Sun posted an article about it online, which attracted over 100,000 hits in just three days.
