If you’ve been wondering what will happen to Apple’s iPhone 4 Bumpers after the free case program ends on 30 September, you’re not alone. An Australian Macworld reader thought that exact question was worthy of an email to Steve Jobs:

Are the iPhone 4 bumpers going to go back on the online apple store once the free case program finishes? I’ve been waiting patiently for a white one for weeks.

Apple’s CEO responded, with a typically brief email:

Sent from my iPhone

So if you want an iPhone 4 Bumper, but don’t subscribe to the Henry Ford colour choice model, you should soon be able to grab a Bumper in whatever hue you desire (so long as its either green, blue, pink, orange, white or black) . The white iPhone 4 may still be missing in action, but now you can get part way there with a white Bumper.

Here’s a screenshot of the short exchange if you’re interested (though the reader wishes to remain anonymous):

If only the free bumper program worked. Waiting 8 weeks for mine. Every excuse under the sun from Apple as to why I hadn’t received it. It’s a joke, I am a real Apple fan but the service over this free bumper offer is most unsatisfactory. The phone will be worn out before I receive it. Bad apple!
