Australian bookmakers SportsBet have released odds on Apple’s upcoming launch of the next-generation iPhone, wagering the smartphone’s announcement date, first day sales figures and the first mobile carrier of the new handset.
Punters are able to bet which month Apple will announce the anticipated smartphone to the public, with the favourite October starting at $1.65 and August and September in equal second place at $3.00.
Australia is set to receive the iPhone first around the world if the betting agency is correct, with SportsBet opening a market on whether Australia will launch the device first at $1.10 according to way2bet.com.au.
However the public doesn’t agree, with 94 percent of the bets placed on ‘any other country’ moving it into $2.75 from its starting $6.00 price while the ‘Australia’ wager moved to $1.40.
“Punters think Australians will have to sit back and watch Apple fans from around the world get their hands on the new iPhone 5 before they can,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
SportsBet has also opened markets for the first mobile carrier to take pre-bookings or sales of the iPhone and the smartphones number of first day sales.
The market suggests Optus will receive the iPhone before Telstra and between 1.4 and 1.6 million iPhones will be sold on the first day.
