Lenmar, ChugPlug, news, macworld australiaMany of us have an iPhone battery pack handy in case our favourite smartphone drops dangerously low in power, but what about our laptops? While on the road, waiting at the airport, sipping a flat white at the local coffee shop or typing away on the train on the daily commute, our MacBooks – be they MacBook Pros or MacBook Airs – often fall victim to a lack of juice and cease being the mobile entertainer or work machine that we need and become large paperweights.

Lenmar’s ChugPlug tackles that problem head on. The portable battery pack for MacBooks suits 45- and 60-watt models and transforms those nightmare situations from wasted hours to productive ones.

Connecting to the MacBook’s MagSafe Power Adapter, the ChugPlug will boost an 11in MacBook Air’s battery by up to four additional hours and a 13in MacBook Air and 13in MacBook Pro’s batteries by up to three hours.

The white ChugPlug features three green LED (light emitting diode) indicators on the side to provide the user with the current charge status and an orange LED to indicate that the battery pack is charging. Users can quickly see how much juice is left with the press of the power button.

You don’t need an extra cable to recharge the ChugPlug, as with charging your MacBook from the device, all you need is your MagSafe Power Adapter. Connect one end of the MagSafe cable into the end of the ChugPlug and the other into the power source and your portable battery pack will begin its two-hour recharge.

The $199 battery back measures 2.8cm in width, 22.9cm in length and 7.4cm in height, making it a slim portable companion for a MacBook and, weighing under 500g, no hindrance when packing a travel bag. Plus, as the ChugPlug connects to your power cable, you can leave it in your bag while you use your MacBook, freeing up more space on your desk for your work documents.

It isn’t just office workers who need the extra battery life; professional musicians, DJs, graphic designers and photographers require their laptops while on the road, performing at gigs or remote photo shoots and the ChugPlug will provide the solution for those who often work past their laptop’s battery limit.

But what about when you try to turn your MacBook on, with deadlines rapidly approaching, and you receive no response? The Lenmar ChugPlug will bring your Mac back from the dead. A fully charged ChugPlug will bring your 13in Retina MacBook Pro back up to around 44 percent battery life, easily enough time to finish that document or assignment and send it off to your boss.

The Lenmar ChugPlug is available at Harvey Norman stores nationwide or online.
