The legendary grunge rock band Soundgarden has been added to the line-up of the first ever iTunes Festival to be held in the US.

The festival, will run from 11 to 15 March 2014 in Austin, Texas, as part of SXSW (the South by Southwest arts festival) and previous acts already announced include Coldplay, Pitbull and Keith Urban.

Soundgarden was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 and currently comprises singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd.

The band’s biggest success to date was its 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard charts in the US.

As this is the album’s 20th anniversary, the band’s contribution to the iTunes Festival will be to play the album in its entirety, including its two Grammy Award-winning singles, ‘Black Hole Sun’ and ‘Spoonman’.

As with previous iTunes Festivals (all held in London to date), the performances at the March event will be live streamed to Macs, iOS devices and Apple TV, and then will be available to view afterwards for a limited period via iTunes and Apple TV.

Those lucky enough to win tickets can witness the event live at the Moody Theatre in Austin.
