Microsoft has released an update for the Skype app for Mac. It’s not a major update, but does bring important bug fixes.

  • Messaging: Fixed an issue that caused links to occasionally disappear in chat.
  • Messaging: Fixed an issue that prevented GIFs from loading properly.
  • Application: Fixed an issue that crashed the application on Macs with Force Touch trackpad.

However, an existing issue with audio and video has not been resolved with the latest update.

Microsoft states: “On OSX, sometimes audio and/or video stops sending in Skype after the device wakes up from hibernation.”

It isn’t yet clear when Microsoft will release the update to fix that issue.

The latest update for Skype for Mac, version 7.9 is now available and you can grab it from here.

SO how long before Micro$oft have finally got Skype back to where is was before they started “fixing” it? It was a more user friendly and stable platform before they got their claws into it.

It seems to be an ongoing trend – one that Apple isn’t immune from (if all the comments we get regarding Photos is anything to go by. I shudder to think of the comments we’ll get when Apple Music is released and iTunes disappears eventually).

Microsoft’s strategy with Skype is to merge it with Lync and offer a range of comms tools for personal small business and enterprise use under the familiar and trusted Skype brand.

So, i suspect they will keep tinkering with it for ever!
