Siri, Apple and Mac climb up list of most popular baby names in 2012

iBabies are the next big thing according to data collected by BabyCenter, which found that the names Siri, Apple and Mac have increased in popularity among new parents.

The pregnancy and parenting website revealed 2012′s top baby names on Thursday, based on the names of 450,000 babies born in 2012 that have been registered on BabyCenter. While names such as Aiden and Sophia top the list, BabyCenter notes that parents “also looked to new, unexpected sources for baby name inspiration this year.”

The name Apple for girls climbed a total of 585 spots in the most popular list this year, a rise of 15 percent.

Mac also saw a significant increase, jumping 12 percent in popularity as a name for newborn boys.

Siri, Apple’s voice-activated personal assistant, is also proving more popular among new parents, moving five percent higher in the girls names list in 2012.

Just this week it was revealed that a baby girl had been named Hashtag after the Twitter practice. In 2011, an Egyptian man named his baby girl Facebook, and an Israeli couple called their daughter Like after the Facebook button.
