As indicated by Macworld Australia yesterday, Apple has done the sneaky thing and slipped the newest iPad offering into stores a full 10 days before many industry analysts were expecting it.

All iterations of the tablet are now listed on the Apple Australia store with shipping times of just one to three days for the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models, but five to 10 business days for all other models, including the entire range of Wi-Fi plus cellular.

The Retina iPad mini features a 7.9in Retina display, the same 64-bit A7 chip utilised by both the iPad Air and the iPhone 5s and ships with a lightning to USB cable and 10W USB power adaptor.

Available in two colours – silver and space grey (with Apple’s Australian online store plumping for the local spelling instead of the US ‘space gray’), the tablets begin at $479 and go all the way up to $949 for the 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
