Apple yesterday unveiled its fourth-generation iPad, just seven months after the launch of the third iPad. Now, the company is selling off its older iPad with big discounts in its refurbished store.

The new iPad has an A6X chip, promising faster performance and better graphics, and also has the addition of a FaceTime HD camera and Lighting port. Prices of the fourth generation iPad start at $419.

The third-generation is no longer being sold in Apple’s normal store, but, if its impressive Retina display and A5X chip is good enough for you, Apple is offering it to customers at a hefty discount through its Refurbished Store.

The starting price of the iPad 3 in the refurb store is $419 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model. That’s already $10 cheaper than Apple is selling the iPad 2 for.

The biggest saving comes from the 64GB Wi-Fi model, has a discount of $154 in the refurbished store, selling for $605.

Stock is bound to be limited though, so we don’t expect these models to stick around for long. But, it’s certainly worthwhile considering this option before investing in a new(er) iPad or iPad 2.

Of course, the alternative is the iPad mini, which will be available to pre-order on Friday. The iPad mini starts at $369. For more about the new 7.9in tablet.
