The popular online bulletin board first began teasing a new look for certain users in January, but now the redesign is official.
Pinterest’s new look, which began rolling out Monday, isn’t a major visual overhaul. The most obvious change is larger images so “you can see more of what you love,” Pinterest lead product designer Jason Wilson wrote in a Monday blog post.
But the biggest additions are subtle tools that help you discover more content. When you click on a closer view of a pin, you can see pins from the same board and pins from the same website without leaving the page you’re on.
There’s also a recommendation feature that shows you what people who pinned an item also pinned. Wilson said the Pinterest apps for iOS and Android will also soon include the feature.
And now when you click through to a board, you can easily click back without losing your spot.
The site is welcoming feedback as more users receive invitations to view the redesign.
The new design arrives as Pinterest continues to grow in popularity. The image-heavy site is the fastest growing social network on both desktops and smartphones, increasing visitors by 1047 percent and 4225 percent, respectively, from December 2011 to 2012. Pinterest also is incredibly popular with women; about 19 percent of internet users are active on the site, according a September report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project.
Pinterest is also reaching out to businesses, first by introducing profiles for brands to post their own photos, then by launching a Web Analytics tool to track clicks from Pinterest and see which photos are popular with pinners.
