Social network site, Pinterest has opened its doors to the public, offering open registration to users beginning today.

Previously ‘Pinners’ could only sign up by requesting an invite from the website, or receiving an invitation from a current account holder. Now, according to the company’s blog, anyone can join.

“We’re really excited to have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people and if you’re a Pinner with friends who’ve been waiting on the sidelines, we hope you’ll let them know,” the blog reads.

The Pintertest network has seen a meteoric growth in traffic since its launch in September 2011. Since then, the company released a report in April 2012 announcing the site attracted four million unique visits a day. This number is expected to rise, following today’s open registration.

Users can sign up for a Pinterest account via their Facebook or Twitter logins, or via an email address.
