US-based Mac supplier Other World Computing (OWC) is targeting buyers of new Mac Pro models with RAM upgrade kits that boost total RAM capacity to dizzying heights at around one-fifth the price of factory options.

OWC’s RAM options are built around 1066MHz DDR3 72-bit ECC memory upgrades, with 32GB kit for the top-of-the-line 8-core Mac Pro priced at $US1799.99 ($A2400). This compares with a price of $A11,000 if users buy the 32GB option directly from Apple.

Other OWC options include 6GB, 8GB, 12GB and 16GB kits for the quad-core Mac Pro models, and 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 24GB and 32GB kits for the 8-core Mac Pro models. Even at lower prices, the savings for Australian customers can be substantial: the 16GB kit, for example, costs $US289.99 ($A375), compared with $1000 if users buy the RAM as an option from the Apple Store Australia.

OWC ships directly to Australian customers. For more information, visit its Mac Pro page.
