iSteve: The Book of Jobs, an official biography of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, will be available to buy early next year, it has been announced.

Apple Insider reports that publishing house Simon & Schuster will release the book in early 2012.

It was rumoured in February 2010 that a Jobs biography was on the way, written by Walter Isaacson. Isaacson, who has written biographies of Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, will indeed be the author, and the new work will be “a landmark book about one of the world’s greatest innovators”, Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp said.

An unauthorised biography of Jobs appeared in 2005, called “iCon Steve Jobs: The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business,” and was written by Jeffrey Young and William Simon.

Apple removed all titles by publisher Wiley & Sons from its retail stores, though this only served to fuel interest in the book, with Wiley & Sons doubling the print run.

In 2009, the Sunday Times ran a profile of Jobs by Bryan Appleyard, who noted that Apple twice tried to have the article pulled.

Jobs is currently on a medical leave of absence from Apple, though appeared on stage in March to announce the launch of the iPad 2. He also attended a dinner with US President Barack Obama in February.
