One of the features Apple at WWDC back in June was their new News app.

However, after upgrading to iOS 9, Macworld Australia reader Michael Sherrifs wrote to us this morning informing us the News app wasn;t available in Australia.

The new News app is NOT available yet in iOS 9. I hunted for ages, searched fruitlessly on the web and finally rang Apple … who were mystified until someone handed them a note saying they’ve realised it’s only available un the US.
It’s a unfortunate sign of the times. Content distribution deals seem to get in the way of even the most basic information being shared.
Let’s hope Apple tie up some local deals so the News app comes to us. Until then, we’ll stick to Feedly and Flipboard.

5 people were compelled to have their say. We encourage you to do the same..

  1. Mark says:

I am on iOS9.1 (was on the Beta program) in Australia and the News app is there.

  2. Frank says:

Mark must have his iOS device set to the US. I tried this and it appears when the device is set to the US but as soon as you switch back to Aus, it gets deleted.

  3. Randall says:

I have it and have aussie news sites set i.e. The CourierMail, The Australian and many more!! And my phone is set to AUS!!
