The entry-level MacBook that we’ve all been expecting has just been dropped upon the world, without the Apple Store even going down.

The new machine boasts a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics and the 10 hour battery of its aluminium MacBook Pro siblings.

The new MacBook also appears to bring with it a $50 price drop for Australian customers – it is now just $1249 on the Apple Store. The MacBook is still US$999 in America, making it pretty good value here depending on the fluctuations of the Australian dollar.

The MacBooks can be configured to up to 4GB RAM, and 500GB hard drives.

The new machines are available now, shipping within 24 hours.

The MacBook has the part number MC516X/A corresponding to our earlier rumour of a MacBook Air update, so it is unlikely that we will be seeing an upgrade to the ultrathin MacBook Air at this time.
