In an interview with NME, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn said he had been working on a follow up to the band’s current Plastic Beach album. That’s not particularly surprising in itself – until you hear that the recording has been done on an iPad while the band has been touring the world.
“I’ve made it on an iPad – I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad,” Albarn told NME. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.”
While there’s a good chance that this could be the first album recorded using an iPad – especially from a major artist – the iPad and iPhone have had their fair share of musical attention. (This cover by Applegirl of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face is pretty remarkable.)
Already technological pioneers (Gorillaz is a ‘virtual band’ made up of cartoon characters that exist mostly online), it’s fitting that the band will be one of the first to record an album on the iPad. Though given their website boasts some tight integration with (and advertising for) Internet Explorer 9, I wonder what Microsoft thinks of this news.
