The establishment of a .mobi top level domain (TLD) was meant to make it easy for users to find web sites that are optimised for viewing on mobile devices. However, sceptics might think that it was a way for domain registrars to sell more domains.

Popular sites are now adopting their own standard and, if you’re running your own site and want to direct visitors to a mobile version, you can easily use the same standard without having to shelll out any cash. Simply create a new sub-domain called "m" for your site. For example, the mobile version of www.facebook.com is m.facebook.com Google search, GMail and others are following suit.
