Mac users are being urged to install the latest version of Java after Apple revealed their operating systems had been compromised.
Despite Apple releasing a patch for Java, the Flashback Trojan has infected more than 30,000 Australian Macs and over 600,000 Macs worldwide are believed to be infected with malicious software which can steal user names and passwords to websites you visit according to reports.
Russian antivirus company Dr. Web said Australia is the fourth most infected country with 32,527 (6.1 per cent) machines believed to contain the malware, with the majority of the botnet computers located in the United States and Canada.
The Flashback Trojan is believed to have been around since September 2011 and has infected both Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s Mac operating systems.
The vulnerability has been closed by Apple only on April 3 2012,” writes Dr. Web on their website.
Apple released the patch a day after reports spread, if you haven’t yet installed it, the latest version of Java for OS X Lion 2012-001 and Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7 is available now to download.
