If you walk along Flinders Street in Melbourne from today, you could be excused for thinking Apple has set up one of its retail stores in the CBD. In fact, My Mac has had a major refurbishment, and the store is now looking more Apple than ever – all it’s missing are the timber tables (which are apparently built from wood out of Steve Jobs’ own forest).
When you walk in, you’re greeted by enormous posters showing off the latest Apple wares, meticulously spaced Macs and iPods, and a Service bar that looks suspiciously like a miniature Genius bar nestled towards the back of the store.
My Mac owner Steve Bardel told Australian Macworld that the refurbishment was extremely important, as the Flinders Street store is My Mac’s most successful. Opposite the popular Federation Square, the store sure gets plenty of tourist traffic, so it makes sense to capitalise on the Apple Stores’ familiar design successes.
Word on the street is that Apple actually helped My Mac with the redesign, as it is one of the first to be included in the newly restructured Apple Premium Reseller program. With all the doom and gloom surrounding the entry of the Apple Stores into Australia and subsequent downsizing of many local resellers, it’s good to see some love being thrown their way.
