Analyst firm, Juniper Research, has released a free report that details its predictions for the wireless market for 2013.

The Top 10 Mobile Trends for 2013 whitepaper, available through the firm’s website, has ‘big data to become big business’ at the top of its list.

Juniper Research said that “the scale of data generated by mobile sensors, services, and applications presents challenges to network providers, that can in turn provide insight into consumer behaviour and allow service providers to anticipate future behaviour patterns.”

As such, the trend of dramatic growth in consumer data usage will not only continue in 2013, but will spur a greater demand for actionable and predictive analytics solutions from players in the mobile value chain. Adoption of such technologies may be slowed in some countries on the back of consumer privacy and data protection concerns.

Juniper Research also foresees that smart glasses and other wearables will gain prominence, making 2013 the year of announcements.

The firm rounds up its top three in stating the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend will maintain its rise, although security issues will escalate.

Its other wireless predictions for 2013 include: retail to embrace the in-store mobile strategy; operators to adopt seamless Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity; mobile to become the connectivity hub; the year of Microsoft; the multi-screen, seamless user experience becomes a reality; new mobile and tablet form factors to emerge; social gaming will be on the rise.
