iFanatics, boot up iCal and mark the date October 5: a new iPhone’s coming out. Or at least that’s what 9to5Mac is reporting, claiming that Swiss telco Swisscom will be offering the next-generation iPhone on that day, a month after the gizmo goes on sale in the States.
This very specific rumour, however, should be approached with extreme caution. Although a staggered September/October release date is certainly in line with previous predictions about the iPhone 5’s launch, September 5 is – as 9to5 points out – a Monday. Apple’s never made a major iPhone release on a Monday.
Secondly, because Apple’s fiercely protective of the secrecy surrounding its product launches, leaking such sensitive information would seriously compromise Swisscom’s relationship with the company.
Nevertheless, this latest rumour just adds more fuel to the rapidly-expanding gossip fire.
