A report on Taiwanese website Digitimes claims that vendors and manufacturers of smartphones and tablets are looking to concentrate on entry- and mid-level products as demand is stronger in developing markets than in mature markets.
According to Digitimes’ report: “Market rumors indicating that Apple plans to launch entry-level iPhones and cut the price of its iPad 2 tablet PCs also signal a slowdown in global demand and a shift in market trend towards low-priced models.”
This would back up a Bloomberg report that suggests Apple has reduced orders for iPad components due to a drop in demand.
According to Bloomberg, JP Morgan thinks Apple might have slashed orders by up to 25 percent, meaning a drop to 13 million units in Q4 from 17 million units in Q3.
Gartner reckons Apple will be the major playor in the tablet market until at least 2014, while IDC said that Apple was still by far the dominant force in the tablet computer market despite other vendors grabbing a larger share in the last year.
