iPhone 5c, apple, macworld australiaAmerican retail chain-store Walmart is now selling the iPhone 5c for less than a dollar.

In the wake of the expected iPhone 6 release in less than a month, for the next 90 days the 16GB smartphone handset will be available from the US stores for US$0.97. The price is available for all colours of the smartphones.

The 16GB iPhone 5s has not escaped the price cuts at Walmart, discounted to US$79 down from US$99.

At the moment most phones are hitting the end of the yearly smartphone cycle. The devices that are released in the next 2-3 months will represent the top smartphone options for 2015 and the start of 2016 according to writer of Gotta Be Mobile Adam Mills.

But iPhone 5c is an attractive option to those who don’t want to spend an arm or leg on the newest technology.

If you’re on the hunt for cheap, quality smartphones you might want to wait for the release of the iPhone 6, which will likely drive down the price of the current iPhones on the market.

Weeks before the iPhone 5s and 5c debuted in September 2013 the price of the iPhone 5 plummeted.

While Australians cannot shop at Walmart, local prices may see a price drop in the coming weeks.  There’s no denying the iPhone 5c is a cheap option. But that cheap price isn’t going anywhere.

A wait-and-see approach, at least until September 9, may be the best choice.
