We all know iOS 4.2 must be just around the corner, but its release really can’t come soon enough. Especially when we hear what Firemint has up its sleeves for Flight Control HD with Game Center.

The new version, which Firemint hopes will be available when iOS 4.2 is released, adds standard updates like new maps and aircraft types, but more importantly, brings Game Center integration and an online multiplayer option to the hugely popular game.

Players will be able to either play against a friend, or be randomly paired with an opponent anywhere in the world via Game Center. There will also be Game Center achievements and leaderboards as well as optimisation for the iPad’s newfound multitasking abilities – so you can quickly switch between landing planes and writing emails.

It’s great to see one of the App Store’s biggest local success stories (Firemint is a Melbourne based developer) isn’t resting on its laurels. Now, if only iOS 4.2 could be released already.

iOS 4.1 supports all of these features, right? Correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve been using 4.1 version of gamecentre for online multiplayer etc.

You’re right, Chase. Except this article’s about Flight Control HD – an iPad game. And the iPad is still on iOS 3.2.
