It has a successful online business and has been servicing local design and video professionals for years, but Melbourne Apple reseller PalaeoGraphics will tomorrow take its first step into the world of general retailing as it opens the doors of a brand spanking-new retail outlet in the inner Melbourne suburb of Elsternwick.

The decision marks a major step for the reseller, which had previously served customers in its niche from a first-floor office on Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick. With the new location, however, PalaeoGraphics has refitted a building that used to be the Elsternwick Post Office, bedecking it with shiny new fittings and a comfortable look that director Hillel Lithwick says reflects the company’s professional credentials.

“We’ve always approached the market from the standpoint of having a lot of Mac exposure and experience,” he explains. “We’re not like a chain retailer and we’re not a large company, and we come from a history of having more one-on-one experience with professional customers that come to us for a certain level of support.”

PalaeoGraphics also operates e-commerce site BuyMac.com.au, and will manage both businesses out of the new site, located at 296 Glenhuntly Road in Elsternwick.

The store will be holding grand opening celebrations tomorrow from 10am to 2pm, with iPods and other prizes to be given away on the day. The store is loaded with Apple standbys such as iPhones and iPods, but Lithwick says the business also focuses on sourcing harder-to-get equipment that its clients request – specialised display adapters, scanners, video storage systems, and other gear for design, video and audio professionals.
