Elgato has announced that its EyeTV Mobile is now compatible with the iPhone 4S as well as the iPad 2.

The device, which lets you wath live TV without you having to have an internet connection (though you will require a TV licence), is a DVB-T tuner that fits into the Dock Connector.

It’ll let you pause, rewind and record live television broadcasts and is powered by the Elgato TV app which is free in the App Store.

There’s an EPG that offers up to seven days of detailed programme guide information and the device comes with a telescopic antenna, a rod antenna with a magnetic base and a USB cable.

The company claims that you can get up to four hours of live TV viewing time on a fully charged iPhone 4S and up to eight hours on the iPad 2. These figures were achieved at 30 percent brightness with Flight Mode activated.

You’ll need to have updated your iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 in order to use the EyeTV Mobile. The EyeTV Mobile is available for £99.95 ($149) from Elgato’s website and selected resellers.

Clearly this is a British news item. There’s no licence required to receive TV broadcasts in Australia.

I wonder if, in Britain, the retailer asks to see your TV licence before selling the device. This licence requirement must cost nearly as much to police as it raises in revenue.
