Apple is rumoured to be gearing up to release a new upgraded iMac model, but it looks like Cupertino will also be launching three updated Mac accessories along with it.

Several websites, including 9to5Mac and French site Consomac, have spotted code in OS X 10.11.1 beta 3 suggesting that Apple is planning to release a Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2 in the coming months. The 10.11.1 beta 3 was originally released to developers this week, and 9to5Mac has confirmed that the Magic accessories code is not present in the current OS X 10.11 release.

Previously, we heard rumours that Apple would launch a new model of the 21.5in iMac equipped with a 4K Retina display. The new 4K iMac is reportedly coming to Apple Stores as soon as next week on Tuesday 13 October. It’s not been confirmed whether these new Magic accessories will be launched alongside this 4K iMac, but it would make sense to create an entirely upgraded suite of products.

In August, Apple submitted filings to the FCC for a Magic Mouse 2 with stronger Bluetooth connectivity, as well as an updated wireless keyboard. If the beta code is to be trusted, it seems that the FCC OK’d the accessories and we should be expecting them soon to complement our Mac lives.

Why this matters: Although details surrounding the updated Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 remain mysterious, we can speculate that perhaps Apple will introduce some kind of Force Touch/Force Click/3D Touch functionality to this lineup of accessories. This pressure-sensitive technology, or a version of it, is currently supported by the Apple Watch, new MacBook trackpads, and the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple seems eager to have this feature be integrated across its product line.
