The online retail giant rolled out the mobile service over the weekend by sending invitations via email to registered San Fransisco users, with an added incentive of a US$15 discount for their first purchase and free delivery for their first three orders. Currently delivery fees are charged per item, with no option for combined delivery charges available yet.
eBay Now enables bidders to select items for sale, shortly after a ‘Shopping Assistant’ will contact the buyer to organise the transaction, including confirming the purchase via phone call, facilitating the payment and delivering the goods to the nominated address on the same day of purchase.
eBay has partnered with several major US retailers for the service, including Target, Bloomingdales, Macy’s and Best Buy. To date, there is no word on when the app will launch in other countries, including Australia.
