Daily Mail reports that 23-year-old Emmanuel Jerome unintentionally pressed record when trying to use his iPhone as a torch, filming the raid with his device, which resulted in him being sentenced to 44 weeks in prison.
Judge John Potter was told that Jerome still said he was innocent, despite clear evidence of the crime found on his iPhone. The burglary, carried out by a gang, took place while the house’s owners were on holiday, and tens of thousands of pounds worth of items were stolen.
“Significantly, in my view, camera footage of the invasion of that property was captured on your mobile phone,” Judge Potter said to Mr Jerome. “You, in my judgement, were an important member of the team that attacked the property on those occasions.”
