The Bondi Apple Store is due to open in late May, according to an Australian Macworld source familiar with Apple’s retail plans.

The Bondi Store, currently under construction in Sydney’s beachside suburb, has been rumoured since January and more-or-less confirmed via Apple job listings. Now, according to our source, it seems that the store is set to open on Saturday, 29 May.

As with all Apple Store openings, there will undoubtedly be plenty of hoopla and fanfare planned for the event. Could that include a local iPad launch too? Well, Apple has said the iPad will be available in Australia and a handful of other countries from ‘late May’.

Fingers crossed that the date doesn’t slip again, and Sydneysiders can celebrate a double whammy. Pre-orders for the iPad start on Monday, 10 May, so we’ll soon see if the dates will coincide.
