Apple's First quarter profits

Apple sold 2.3 million Macs and 22.1 million iPods during the holiday shopping season, helping the company turn a $US1.58-billion profit during its fiscal first quarter. The Mac totals mark the third consecutive quarter that Apple has set a quarterly sales record for its desktops and laptops. iWork gains Numbers

Apple’s suite of productivity tools added a third application — a spreadsheet tool to join the presentation and page-layout programs that already make up the software collection. The three applications — Keynote, Pages, and the newly added Numbers — comprise iWork ’08. The $99 suite, which is now shipping, was unveiled August 7 at a press briefing at Apple’s headquarters.
