No official announcements or invitations have been sent out by Apple, but AllThingsD’s John Paczkowski is claiming that Apple’s invitation-only iPad mini event is still scheduled for later this month.
“Apple will hold a special event this month at which it will showcase a new, smaller iPad,” he wrote. “People familiar with Apple’s plans tell us that the company will unveil the so-called ‘iPad mini’ on October 23 at an invitation-only event. Sources declined to specify where the event is to be held, and I’ve not been able to confirm a location. But it’s likely to be at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium.”
Paczkowski said details were slim, but went on to say, “the iPad’s diminutive sibling will feature a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display and a Lightning connector. It will also probably be thinner, according to sources”.
Jim Dalrymple of The Loop has also responded with a “yep” to Paczkowski’s claims.
Darlymple gave the same response back in August when it was reported Apple would hold the September 12 iPhone 5 event.
After initial rumours of Apple’s iPhone 5 event back in August, and before the official invitations were sent out, Paczkowski also claimed that Apple would hold a second product launch in October, saying “Only after the next-generation iPhone is out the door and on sale will Apple announce the smaller iPad it’s been working on”.
If reports are correct Apple’s iPad mini event will be a couple of days before Apple Q4 earnings call on October 25.
