The end game in business is always about revenue and profit. For some time, Google’s Play Store has led that race. But a report from analytics company App Annie has reported a significant turnaround.

The main shift has been the growth of App Store revenues in China. While Google Play has done well in some markets such as Mexico Apple has been able to grow in China.

The report highlights one of the key differences between iOS and Android users. Although it’s reasonable to say there are more Android users out there and that they are downloading more apps, they aren’t spending as much money as iOS users.

In other words, if you’re a developer looking for eyeballs then Google Play might be a good bet. But f you’re looking to turn a profit then the App Store might offer more opportunities.

The report says “In Q1 2015, iOS downloads in China overtook those in the United States. China’s surge may have been partially caused by the recent launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. While both the United States and China are two of Apple’s strongest markets, demand for smartphones with larger screens seems to be particularly high​ in Asia”.

    Or it could be that this merely shows that iOS apps are more expensive than those on the Google Play store.
