Apple issued an update for the iPhone 5, fixing the bug experienced by Verizon customers that caused the device to eat away at their data allowance even when connected to Wi-Fi.
Apple’s website describes the update as “an important new carrier settings update” which “resolves an issue in which, under certain circumstances, iPhone 5 may use Verizon cellular data while the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.”
Apple tells users to go to settings > General > About, and then wait for an update alert to appear. Click OK to install the update and then turn the iPhone off and then on again in order to finish the update installation.
However, Apple’s update doesn’t address the problems experienced by iOS 6 users with older devices, and it is not yet clear when, or if, Apple will be releasing a fix for this issue.
Wi-Fi problems are part of a long list of issues experienced by iOS 6 and iPhone 5 users since their launch in September.
