The launch of the fourth-generation iPad just seven months after the iPad 3 sparked speculation that Apple is planning to move to a biannual product cycle for its iPad line-up, and new reports suggest that Apple will introduce an iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 in March, just five months after their predecessors.

Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White claims that his checks with industry sources during the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week indicated that the fifth-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad mini are set to arrive in March.

According to White’s sources, the iPad 5 will be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4, which hit the shelves in November alongside the first iPad mini.  The fourth-generation iPad arrived as a minor upgrade from its predecessor, sporting the same design but with a new A6X processor and the new Lightning connector.

The iPad mini 2 is expected to have the same body as the first iPad mini, but with a faster chip. While White didn’t mention the possibility of a Retina display for the next iPad mini, recent reports have suggested that Apple is already testing the high-resolution screens for its smaller iPad.

White’s speculation echoes that of Jefferies analyst Peter Misek from December last year.

Misek predicted that the next iPad would slim down, while the iPad mini 2 could have modest spec boost. He thinks that the two new iPads will arrive at the later date of June, though.

Misek also added that the iPad mini 2 could be available in six to eight colours, as could the iPhone 6. White has also suggested that the next iPhone will be available in multiple colour options, and also three different sizes.

I don’t believe that, I work for a telco and we still haven’t received one single cellular iPad Mini and only a couple of iPad 4′s. I doubt Apple would be moving to a new design so quickly when they haven’t even caught up with demand on the current design. June definitely seems more feasible. We could sell so many of these things if only we could get them.
