Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Gee-Sung Choi and representatives from both Apple and Samsung have agreed to meet in San Francisco, California, to participate in moderated settlement talks to resolve the dispute between the two giants.

Apple and Samsung will meet for the settlement talk before US Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero, the meeting will take place in a San Francisco courthouse, after Judge Lucy Koh – the federal judge presiding over the two Apple vs. Samsung lawsuits – ordered the parties into an ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution’ effort.

The settlement is semi-voluntary, with Koh setting a 90-day deadline for Apple’s team, led by Cook, to meet with Choi and Samsung officials in a hearing overseen by Spero.

Apple and Samsung will attempt to settle their on going feud, which started after Apple sued Samsung for allegedly copying the look and feel of the iPhone and iPad, resulting in ongoing legal battles in courts around the world.

Judge Lucy Koh ordered the parties to comment on their availability for an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) effort. Apple and Samsung said in a joint statement:

“As directed by the Court, Apple and Samsung are both willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference with Judge Spero as mediator. At Apple, the chief executive officer and general counsel are the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Apple during the upcoming settlement discussions. At Samsung, the chief executive officer and general counsel are also the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Samsung during these settlement discussions.”

Soon after Judge Koh just ordered the following, ”The parties have indicated that they are willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference (‘MJSC’). ECF No. 873. Therefore, the parties are hereby referred to an MJSC with Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero with a 90-day deadline. As the parties have indicated in their joint statement, the chief executive officer and general counsel of Apple and the chief executive officer and general counsel of Samsung shall appear and participate at the MJSC”, as reported by FOSS Patents.
